Finding photography locations in boring areas

The location problem

It does not take much to have the urge to grab your camera, walk out the front door and take photos, but most of the time you ask yourself where you should go. If this is what you are struggling with, this blog is for you.
This problem is very common and everyone has their own way of solving it. Anyway, here are a couple of solutions listed to this problem.

Events

One easy possibility is local events. Just search the internet for events in your local area or ask people you know in your town if there is anything coming up. A simple party would do it too if you are down for it.
Anywhere people are meeting up and consuming goods, making music or whatever it is, it's a great way to get some photos.
Apart from your own game in photography, you could also offer to take pictures for the hosts and maybe, who knows, earn some money.
But what if there are no events planned for the next decade?

Unknown paths

If you are more of an outdoor adventure type, you need to try this next method.
You probably have seen some paths leading nowhere by going for a walk or hiking in your area, it depends on where you are located.
These paths could lead from small trails to barely noticeable tracks created by animals.
This is definitely worth a try and you can stumble up on some really interesting locations you would not have found elsewhere.
Here is a little sidenote: If you can't find any tracks, walking into the bare wilderness is another option.

The internet is your friend

If you are reading this blog, you have already read a lot about how to find locations if your area is boring or you are just drowning in it. However, just by using any map and searching around in a bird's-eye view, you can change up everything.
Not only can searching on maps help you find locations, but also coming up with ideas for taking photos can change the way you look for spots. Let's make up an example! Maybe you are a nature photographer and you are taking photos of your local flora and fauna.
Imagine your goal for your next photoshoot is to take a long exposure. With your goal in mind, you probably would consider searching for a small river or lake, for instance. This decision is based on the goal you just set for yourself and not on your everyday photography game.

Conclusion

In reality, it's not as easy as it sounds. At some point, you will get bored with your local area. If you are not able to find a solution to this problem apart from going somewhere farther away, lay your camera down for a bit and take a break.
Sometimes all you need is a little refresh for your mind!

Hey! I am Moritz, but you can call me Mo. I am 21 years old and love taking photos. I have always been the one who is capturing everything out of the essential parts of a family trip. This is me today, still. I found the inspiration to start my journey of photography on Youtube from other photographers out there. A couple years have passed since then and I am not planning on ending this ever. Don't stop taking photos!
